An American Fortune 500 integrated communications company, that provides marketing and business communications, commercial printing, and related services, was experiencing tremendous growth in the 1990s and early 2000s. During this time, they purchased multiple companies outright, which led to a key merger that enabled them to expand even further. After establishing facilities nationwide, the disconnect became apparent. Their legacy system was insufficient and unable to handle their large operational efforts. The need to modernize their systems was crucial.


In 2004, the client acquired a printing factory in Nashville, Tennessee. This acquisition was vital in highlighting the inadequacies of their legacy mainframe platform. Over the years it became apparent that in order for their platform to operate successfully, it would entail integrating multiple systems that would require ongoing support of their mainframe. Another problem was that their customer and internal communications were not sustainable because historical archived communications were not readily accessible. Exasperating this issue was the fact that the system lacked disaster recovery capability. Saggezza was approached to develop a strategy for this application migration.


The solution was to implement 300 plus applications from the client’s legacy mainframe platform to a more malleable and modern open systems platform. Saggezza established a detailed and innovative roadmap that detected commonalities between applications, which expedited the development process.

Once the project was completed, there was a considerable reduction in significant risk and the client’s data was now streamlined into a single system. This provided the client with the ability to print and ship material from any of their locations within the United States; greatly reducing their overall shipping cost. In the end, Saggezza was able to lower client’s on-going operational costs by $300,000 annually.
