Mobile Applications for Large US Healthcare Insurer

Our client provides insurance coverage for approximately 6.5 million people in the US.  The company wanted to accelerate the deployment of mobile solutions to its customers, agents, employees and vendor partners.  Ultimately the insurer expects to have numerous mobile applications but this would be one of their first forays into building software for mobile devices and they sought a trusted partner to help them.

Rather than simply building applications, Saggezza first developed a Reference Architecture, to demonstrate how mobile applications would fit within the insurer's overall IT ecosystem.  A critical part of this is data security.  With the new architecture in place, Saggezza built a custom application to demonstrate a secure connection between a mobile device and the insurer's back-end applications via a secure SOAP web service.

The reference architecture now provides a solid framework on which future applications can be built, following a factory model.   Saggezza is now developing the first application on this model - a personal health manager which will create more direct interaction with customers, encouraging them to report healthy behavior, dealing with the most common health insurance customer service queries, nudging customers to adopt healthier lifestyles and reminding them to take prescribed medication.
